Protecting your energy as a highly sensitive empath

There have been several times when I felt absolutely amazing, high energy and happy then spend a couple minutes around a “Debbie downer” or one who is a chronic complainer, never having anything nice to say. Although I have recognized this within me till becoming more aware and conscious as well as being able to focus on the positives or blessings. Yet this negativity can be very draining. There has even been a time where I started feeling sick being next to someone talking about how bad they were feeling. Being a empath and highly sensitive to others energy I have learned ways to try and protect myself and my energy.

Protecting your spiritual energy as a highly sensitive empath is essential to maintaining emotional balance, clarity, and overall well-being. Here are some grounded and practical ways to do that:

1. Set Energetic Boundaries

Visualize a protective shield around your body—white light, a golden bubble, or a mirrored aura—to block unwanted energy.

•Affirmations like “I am safe and protected” or “I choose what energy I allow into my space” help reinforce boundaries.

2. Practice Grounding Techniques

•Walk barefoot on natural earth (grass, soil, sand). I will go out back of my home and just be barefoot in the grass while taking care of my garden.

•Meditate with the intention of connecting to the Earth’s energy.

•Imagine roots growing from your feet deep into the ground.

3. Daily Energy Hygiene

•Salt baths (Epsom or sea salt) clear lingering negative energy.

•Use smudging tools like sage, palo santo, or incense to cleanse your aura.

•Regularly visualize or meditate on clearing out your energy field.

4. Limit Toxic Exposure

•Reduce time spent with people who drain your energy.

•Avoid overstimulating environments when possible.

5. Use Crystals for Protection

•Black tourmaline, obsidian, or amethyst can help absorb negative energies.

•Wear them as jewelry or carry them in your pocket.

6. Develop Discernment

•Learn to recognize when energy isn’t yours.

•Say internally, “Return to sender” or “I release what isn’t mine.”

7. Create Sacred Space

•Keep a calm, spiritually nurturing environment at home with items that feel sacred to you—plants, candles, symbols, or personal altars.

8. Regular Spiritual Practices

•Meditation, prayer, journaling, or energy healing (like Reiki) can help keep your field strong and clear.

Ultimately I feel we are responsible for our energy, the energy we put out and embody. It starts from within. Using several of these techniques has helped me in protecting my energy and hope it can help you 💕
